About Green River Pictures

In 2009, Derek Hallquist founded Green River Pictures, LLC.to better serve his clients. He continues to work with other talented filmmakers and freelance crews to produce award winning work. Derek Hallquist can also work as a loan-out to serve your production company on a feature film, commercial, Television program, or Industrial productions.

When Derek was just 14 years old, a teacher's strike ended in favor of the teacher's union after Derek's footage was aired on WCAX (Vermont's largest news network). He went on to attend the Multimedia Program at Green Mountain Technology and Career Center in Hyde Park, VT. It was there that he received a VSAC scholarship to attend Emerson College in Boston, MA. At Emerson, Derek studied Filmmaking and Photography and it was there that he learned not only the technical skills, but gained the ability to conceive and produce engaging visual stories. His senior year, he won the Best Advanced Film Evvy (Emerson's annual awards showcase) for his short film, "Ruthless".

Through Emerson's internship program, Derek moved to Los Angeles, CA where he began his professional career as a camera operator for numerous television shows on networks such as Discovery, Travel and TLC. After four years in LA and his first season as a Director of Photography on My First Home, Derek decided he missed Journalism and Documentary. In 2008, he moved back to Vermont to create GRP. Derek was quickly scooped-up by filmmaker Eugene Jarecki to work as a Camera Operator and Director of Photography on Eugene's films. Derek was involved with Freakonomics, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2010 and Reagan, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2011. Derek was Director of Photography for The House I Live In, which won the 2012 Grand Jury Prize for US Documentary.

In 2013, Derek was nominated for a New England Emmy award for his short Documentary The Opiate Effect that aired on Maine's PBS stations, Vermont’s channel 5 and 22 as well as being shown in over 100 schools on the east coast. The film is now free online and used in opiate clinics around the United States.

Derek and GRP produced the feature length documentary, "Denial", which premiered in 2016 at the LA Film Festival and won several awards at film festivals around the country. It aired on PBS in 2017 and can be found on Amazon and Itunes.
